Don’t buy a professional coffee machine

Don’t buy a professional coffee machine for your office, until you read this post. Full disclosure, we sell coffee machines to buy. So why, I hear you ask, would we put people off from buying an office coffee machine? The answer is simple; our customers have been burned in the past by bad companies, so we know what to look out for when it comes to buying a professional coffee machine.

Don’t buy an office coffee machine…..

…unless you’ve read this article. We explain some of the key reasons why you shouldn’t buy a professional coffee machine. Some of these can be obvious factors for why you shouldn’t buy but some can be more hidden. Check out our article on why you shouldn’t sign a service agreement for more info on obscure issues in contracts.

…Unless you have a warranty

As with any electronic goods purchase, you should protect yourself by ensuring it has a warranty. If the product you are purchasing has no warranty, whether provided by the retailer or the manufacturer, it should be marked as a red flag. This is especially the case when you are buying brand new office equipment. You should make sure the coffee machine you want to purchase has a warranty which covers any manufacturing faults.

…Unless you get aftercare

Like a warranty, aftercare is for thinking about the future life of your product. Often people will buy equipment outright and not think about what to do should a problem arise. Whereas warranties will cover parts and mechanical breakage, aftercare can protect against those issues in the first place. Aftercare often encompasses general maintenance and service to ensure your machine lasts for longer and works efficiently. Does the coffee machine provider you’re looking to buy from offer an aftercare package? And if so, what does it cover? Some will charge an ongoing maintenance fee while others, like The Coffee Desk, will offer aftercare free of charge if you continue to buy their coffee.

…Unless they install it.

You may be surprised to learn this, but many companies that you can purchase coffee machines from don’t actually install them. They will send the equipment via a courier, who will drop off the box and that’s it. Now, with some basic instructions, you could probably figure out how to install the machine, but it shouldn’t be your responsibility. When you’ve invested a lot in an office coffee machine, the supplier should be the ones delivering and installing it. If the coffee machine is installed incorrectly, it could void your warranty. Ask your supplier for information about their installation process, how long will it take and if you need to prepare the area in any way. If they don’t offer installation, it’s time to look elsewhere.

…Unless you get trained

If the coffee machine supplier does include installation, the next thing you have to ask is whether you will receive thorough training with your purchase. If they don’t, the provider is setting you up to fail. When you are outlaying a large sum of money for a machine, you want to make sure you will get the best out of your machine. Any coffee machine supplier that sells you a machine should be able to provide you with thorough training. This includes showing you how to use it, how to clean it and whether it needs any extra ongoing maintenance. Ask your prospective coffee machine company whether they will provide training when they install the machine.

…Unless it’s the right machine

Don’t buy a machine that’s not fit for your company or your employees. You should only buy a coffee machine when you know it meets your needs. The machine should have the capacity to fit your workforce, the efficiency to keep up with your demand and should produce the drinks you want. We’ve written a more in-depth guide on How to choose the right coffee machine.
